Woman killed, husband injured by plow in MBTA parking lot

A woman was killed and her husband was injured when a snowplow truck struck them in an MBTA parking lot Sunday afternoon. 

The married couple was walking through the parking lot at the Norwood Central commuter rail station at about 2 p.m. Sunday when the incident occurred. A man working for a private company contracted by the MBTA for snow removal was driving a Ford F350 truck in the lot. The truck reversed and struck the couple, Superintendent Richard Sullivan of the MBTA Transit Police said in a statement. 

The woman was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries she received. She was 51 years old. Her identity has not been released. 

Her husband was transported to a local hospital for nonlife-threatening injuries. He is 47 years old, Sullivan said. 

The plow operator was identified only as a 33-year-old man. He remained on the scene and was cooperative with Transit Police detectives.

Transit Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are coordinating with the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office. 

“This is an unimaginable, horrific incident,” Sullivan said. “On behalf of the Transit Police and the entire MBTA organization we express our most sincere condolences to the victim’s family and friends. Our thoughts and prayers are with them.”
