The school says its personalized approach to Jewish learning has become too costly to sustain.
The K–8 MetroWest Jewish Day School in Framingham will close at the end of the school year, with school leaders saying their personalized, faith-based model has become too costly to sustain.
Founded by Steven and Renée Finn in 2003, the school has served more than 300 students from over 30 towns across the region.
After extensive efforts to find a viable path forward, “we have concluded that our model of highly individualized Jewish day school education is no longer sustainable in the Metrowest area of Boston,” a statement from the school’s leaders said.
School officials told The Times of Israel there are about 20 students enrolled across all grades. The school’s latest annual report lists 18 faculty and staff members.
In response to the school’s closure, the Finn family has committed to providing tuition support for current students who continue their Jewish day school education through eighth grade.
In April, the school is hosting a final gala celebration to honor the vision, generosity, and dedication of the people who helped shape MetroWest Jewish Day School’s 25-year legacy.
“We hope that elements of our individualized approach to teaching and learning will continue to influence Jewish day schools throughout Greater Boston and beyond,” the school’s statement said.
The closure adds to a growing list of religious schools in the Greater Boston area that have shuttered due to financial struggles and declining enrollment.
The Academy at Penguin Hall, an all-girls Catholic school in Wenham, closed after it filed for bankruptcy in 2025.
Saint Joseph Prep in Boston closed in 2023 after more than 100 years due to financial difficulties. Also in 2023, Matignon High School, a Catholic school in Cambridge, closed, citing financial pressures and declining enrollment.
Two other Catholic high schools, Mount Alvernia in Newton and Bishop Connolly in Fall River, also announced closures in recent years.
