“Oh no.”
The ESPN panelists on Friday’s episode of “NFL Live” seemed to know in real time that they had made a mistake by uniformly picking the Texans against the Patriots in their prediction roundup prior to the divisional-round playoff game.
So it was with a degree of predictability that the Patriots’ team account was quick to troll ESPN following the 28-16 New England win over Houston at Gillette Stadium on Sunday.
Moments after the result became official, the Patriots shared a screenshot of the NFL Live clip with the caption, “Oh no.”
The team wasn’t the only prominent postgame mention that the ESPN clip garnered.
Rapper Cardi B, who is in a relationship with Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, quoted the post on X.
“What are y’all talking about?” she yelled in the video shared on social media. “Nothing!”
ESPN hosts admittedly understood the implications of their collective round of predictions that the Texans would win as soon as it was revealed.
“I don’t love it,” former quarterback and NFL analyst Dan Orlovsky said on Friday. “New England fans are going to be mad at us.”
“This is bad,” fellow panelist Marcus Spears concluded.
It was a somewhat surprising list of predictions considering that the Patriots entered Sunday as 3.5-point favorites.
One of the ESPN hosts who did correctly predict a Patriots win, Scott Van Pelt, responded to the Patriots with a simple reply.
“Oh yes?” Van Pelt joked.
New England now moves on, and will travel to face the Broncos in the AFC Championship game on Sunday at 3 p.m.
