Bruins G Jeremy Swayman set to make Olympic debut and start for Team USA vs. Denmark

Swayman didn’t get a start for Team USA in last year’s 4 Nations Face-Off, but helped it win the IIHF World Championship later in 2025.

A pair of Bruins will be on the ice when Team USA takes on Denmark in Saturday’s preliminary round game at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman will start in net for Team USA on Saturday, ESPN’s Emily Kaplan reported. It’ll mark Swayman’s first Olympic outing.

Swayman, 27, has been a staple on Team USA’s roster over the last few major international tournaments. However, he didn’t get a start in last year’s 4 Nations Face-Off.

Swayman did start for the USA in the IIHF World Championship later in 2025. But he was only able to participate in that tournament because Boston missed the playoffs. Swayman helped Team USA win that tournament, going 5-0 and notching a shutout in the championship victory over Switzerland.

That performance seemingly improved Swayman’s stock and chances to make the USA roster for the 2026 Winter Olympics. But he’s had a solid 2025-26 campaign as well. He’s 22-12-3 with a 2.92 GAA and .903 save percentage this season.

Jets’ star Connor Hellebuyck started in net for the USA in its 5-1 win over Latvia in the team’s Olympic debut on Thursday. Hellebuyck, who won the Vezina Trophy for the second straight year last season, will back up Swayman on Saturday. Former Boston University star and current Stars goalie Jake Oettinger is the other goalie on Team USA’s roster.

Team USA plays again on Sunday, taking on Germany in its final preliminary round game before the knockout rounds begin on Tuesday. No starter has been announced yet for that game.

Of course, Swayman will join Bruins teammate and defenseman Charlie McAvoy on the ice for Saturday’s game. McAvoy was on the top defensive pairing with Wild star Quinn Hughes for Thursday’s game. McAvoy logged a plus-1 and three shots in Thursday’s game.
