France’s counterterrorism authorities have launched a new investigation after a knife-wielding assailant was shot dead by police Friday evening near the Arc de Triomphe. The attacker reportedly attempted to assault gendarmes who were preparing for the relighting of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
