The account appears to have more than 100,000 followers. A similar account with nearly 300,000 appears to impersonates a Santa Monica officer.
The Massachusetts State Police is warning residents not to trust a social media account with artificially created content portraying a female state trooper, complete with badges, cruisers, and more.
“The Massachusetts State Police is aware of a social media account using artificially generated content to falsely portray a State Trooper,” a State Police spokesperson said. “This account is not affiliated with the Department in any way.”
“Sarita” on Instagram appears to be the account the agency reported, showing a blonde woman wearing a Massachusetts State Police uniform, complete with a badge and a gun. In the pictures posted since Dec. 29, her name tags reads “Sara,” “St. Pay,” and “St. May.” In one, the letters are unintelligible.
The account has more than 100,000 followers as of Sunday evening. MSP declined to confirm the account.
No Massachusetts State Police trooper have the first name Sara, Sarah, or Sarita, according to Massachusetts Peace Officer and Standards and Training, or POST, Commission’s officer status lists.
Images on the account show the fake trooper, sometimes in suggestive poses, in front of the Massachusetts State House, at a Celtics game, in a cruiser, and at the beach being held up by another trooper. In another, the artificially generated model has a leg up on a car hood with the Boston skyline in another.
The account links to a free OnlyFans account, where the artificially generated model posts adult content.
The same model appears to also be also impersonating a Santa Monica police officer, with “Valdez” as the name on her uniform. The account has nearly 300,000 followers, and some of the images are the same as Boston Sarita, but with different backgrounds. The OnlyFans link is also the same.
The agency said it reported the account through the social media platform’s process with the hopes that it will be taken down.
“We encourage the public to rely on official MSP channels and verified sources for accurate information, and to be cautious of accounts that claim to represent law enforcement without clear verification,” MSP spokesperson added.
