
The International Olympic Committee said on Sunday that the Milan–Cortina Winter Olympics will live up to expectations as the world’s premier winter sports event, despite last-minute efforts to prepare key venues, including the long-delayed Santagiulia ice hockey stadium, ahead of next week’s opening. Organisers are racing to complete sites across Milan and the mountain clusters, even as Reuters reported on Saturday that a cable car in Cortina intended to transport spectators to the women’s alpine skiing events will not be ready in time for the Games’ 6 February start.
