Worcester Square is perhaps the distillation of life in Boston’s South End. The street is lined with brownstones, and there is a fountain in the center. Anyone who lives there has ready access to the wide array of night spots, restaurants, and parks the city’s very popular neighborhood offers.

This home is the ground floor of a brownstone and is accessed by walking to the left and then underneath the front steps. The entry is a white door with a clear glass window.

The door opens into a 188-square-foot front hall that includes a closet and space enough for an entry table and an armchair. The flooring is bamboo. To the left is the living room/office behind a pair of doors with frosted glass — a design choice followed throughout the home.

To the left is the first of two bedroom suites, although the current owner has used it as a second living room/office. Behind a pair of doors with frosted windows, the room has two double-hung windows in a bump-out, recessed lighting, bamboo flooring, and two closets, both of which have double doors. There is also a built-in cabinet in one corner with clear glass doors. The room also features a private full bath. It has a single vanity, tile flooring, and a shower/bath combination with a tile backsplash.

Returning to the foyer, there is a stairwell leading to the lower level while to the left, there is a hallway connecting to the primary suite. On the left side of the 10-foot-long hallway is a double-door closet.

The primary suite is nestled in the rear of the unit, away from the busy street scene of Worcester Square and behind a smoked glass privacy door. It opens inward into a hallway with a smoked glass door on the left to the private bath.

The 83-square-foot full bathroom generates something of a beach-like atmosphere given the sand-toned tiles. The shower is behind a clear glass door. On the right, there is a double vanity with the cabinet color matched to the tile underneath a pair of square mirrors, also color-matched.

The 249-square-foot bedroom features bamboo flooring, two double-hung windows, and two closets, each with double doors. An added convenience in the bedroom is a stacked washer/dryer combo in a laundry closet. There is recessed lighting.

At the foot of the stairwell on the lower level, there is a floor-to-ceiling built-in bookshelf and a 41-square-foot half-bath with a single vanity and an unfinished tin ceiling tile as the backsplash. Two steps down is the combined kitchen/dining/living room that together account for 368 square feet.

The kitchen is on the left and starts with an island with a speckled stone countertop and a gas range. Above the range is a stainless steel hood bracketed by two pendant lights. The rear wall is lined with two layers of wooden cabinets and a counter with the sink and the same speckled stone countertop. The appliances are stainless steel. In front of the island is a clear glass table that creates seating for four.

The remainder of the space is allotted to the living room, which has a fireplace on the left. There is a closet deep on the right side, recessed lighting, and bamboo flooring.

Clear glass doors open to the final space — and it’s a nice one. This unit has its own “Private Idaho” (for B52 fans) in the form of a 116-square-foot patio. It has a stone retaining wall perfect for plantings, brick pavers for the floor, and a private entrance.

This home is one of 13 in the building, which was built in 1910. It has forced-air heating and central air conditioning.
