New Movies Streaming

‘The Rip’ (2026)

“The Rip” is the type of movie that used to be purpose-built to earn $60-80 million at the box office and re-air on TNT or USA in perpetuity — a diverting burst of artillery fire to keep area dads in their recliners between the Patriots game and Sunday Night Football. (Read my full review of “The Rip” here.)

This one, directed by Joe Carnahan, is elevated by the presence of Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, who play Miami narcotics detectives who descend on a stash house with $20 million hidden in its walls. You’ve seen this type of movie before. But with Affleck — who excels at playing a hothead with a conscience — and Damon — who loves to play an affable character hiding his true motives — in the cast, it hits differently.

How to watch: “The Rip” is streaming on Netflix.

‘The Running Man’ (2025)

When Stephen King wrote “The Running Man” in 1982, he set his short story far enough into the future that readers could imagine America descending into the dystopia he describes. The year? 2025.

Director Edgar Wright’s adaptation of the story paints an America in which capitalism rules all, people now have trouble paying for health care and accessing vaccines, and cameras capture our every move. Specifically, Glenn Powell plays a man trying to get on reality TV so that he can pay for his daughter’s flu medication and so his wife doesn’t have to do sex work to help pay the bills. The network’s producer (Josh Brolin) casts Powell in his most popular show, where contestants must avoid being killed by professional assassins (and random members of the public) for 30 days to win $1 billion. It’s stylish, it’s darkly funny, and if you think about it too long, it’s depressing.

‘Agatha Christie’s Seven Dials’ (2026)

Fans of British costume dramas will likely enjoy aspects of this Netflix adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel “The Mystery of the Seven Dials,” in which aristocrat turned amateur sleuth Lady Eileen “Bundle” Brent (Mia Mckenna-Bruce) must figure out who poisoned a diplomat at one of her parties. The mix of characters helping and hindering her efforts most notably includes Martin Freeman (“Sherlock”) as a skulking investigator and Helena Bonham Carter (“Fight Club”) as Bundle’s mother.

Industry’ Season 4

The young, idealistic finance grads we saw in Season 1 of this HBO show are gone, as is Pierpont, their former employer that was gutted for parts in Season 3. What’s left is a bunch of jaded opportunists who are floating in the brackish backwaters of the finance world, some of whom are swimming upstream and others who are drowning. New cast members this season include Max Minghella (“The Handmaid’s Tale”) and Kal Penn (“Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle”), cofounders of a banking alternative that thrives on seedy businesses regular banks won’t touch. It’s a grimy, fascinating look into the current world order.

How to watch: “Industry” Season 4 is streaming on HBO Max.

‘The Night Manager’ Season 2

It’s been a decade since fans first met Jonathan Pine (Tom Hiddleston), a luxury hotel manager recruited by a government operative (Olivia Colman) to take down a brutal arms dealer (Hugh Laurie). In Season 2, Pine is more prepared for missions that don’t involve room service, though it still takes some persuading to get him to accept a mission infiltrating Roper’s organization. In case that short synopsis wasn’t clear, watching Season 1 beforehand is a must to properly enjoy this mix of espionage and combat. Luckily, both seasons are a brisk six episodes.

How to watch: “The Night Manager” Season 2 is streaming on Prime Video.
