Two Cambridge police officers had to think quickly when they were called to rescue an injured person from the tracks of the Red Line, the department said Wednesday.

The officers were in Central Square at around 5 p.m. on Dec. 27 when they learned about a person who had fallen onto the tracks inside the nearby MBTA station, the department said. The person was unable to get off the tracks without help, and the next train was due in one minute, the department wrote on Facebook alongside body camera footage of the rescue.

The officers had no time to warn the train operator or shut down power to the third rail of the tracks, the department wrote. Entering the station and quickly locating the injured person, the officers both jumped onto the tracks and hauled them to safety, the video shows.

The person was later taken to a hospital to be evaluated for their injuries, according to the department. The incident is believed to have been an accident, and no related criminal investigations are ongoing, Cambridge police said.
